Professor Jacques Deviere is currently Chairman of the Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatopancreatology and GI Oncology at the Erasme University Hospital, and Full Professor of Medicine at Université Libre de Bruxelles, Brussels, Belgium.
He is also director of the Laboratory of experimental gastroenterology at the same University of which specific interests include pathophysiology of liver and pancreatic diseases, genetic susceptibility to diseases and treatments in oncology, liver and intestinal diseases. It also involves a large area of research about endoscopic procedures involving physicians, engineers and scientists. Pr Deviere has been general secretary of the Royal Belgian Society of Gastroenterology from 1996 to 2001. He has been President of the European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy from 2006 to 2008.
